In a constantly progressive country like Singapore, where land is scarce, older structures are constantly at risk of being demolished to make way for new developments. To some, the loss of these spaces represents a loss of tradition and personal experiences.
An Alternate Singapore features spaces and architecture from Singapore's past, which were eventually demolished to make space for new establishments. A sense of displacement is created through the visuals as the structures are illustrated with a reimagined and modern day look. This displacement has the potential to draw viewers into exploring more about the illustrated structures that others had once held close from the past, especially if they weren't initially familiar with them.
